At the Drawing Board
With the All Saints day on Tuesday, the remainder of the ninth week took place in the classroom with activities aimed at nurturing the upcoming charrette. Wednesday began with a drawing exercise that explored the influence that the composition of a board has on what is communicated. With just two drawings (a Vignette and a site section), the students laid out multiple boards with various arrangments; each pushing the scale and placement within their frames. The afternoon was left for individual “desk crits” on the students’ concepts for their charrette design proposal.
Thursday morning students presented thumbnails of their boards as a means to push both the design idea and focus their efforts on an effective presentation.
Marcus McAlister returned Thursday afternoon with another set of creativity-nurturing exercises that pushed the students to turn off their “thinking mind”.
